Your back and spine don't have to heal first for you to

Why did
your back muscles get too tight, to begin with?
The simple answer:
conditioning.
Repetitive Motions: If
you’re in an occupation that involves repetitive bending and straightening,
those actions condition your muscles to stay tight.
Held Posture: If you’re
in an occupation that involves long periods in a position of strain (e.g., car
mechanics, hair cutters), that strain, in time, becomes permanent.
Emotional Stress (Nervous Tension): If you’re in a high-stress job,
particularly one at a desk, that stress becomes “nervous tension” held in

Accidents: All accidents
trigger a universal response: we tighten

How Somatics Sets You Free

It’s not about getting back to a neutral spine position. You can’t live that way. Everything we do is a departure from
neutral spine position! – from leaning forward or backward in a
chair to athletics to work-related activities.
